Loving Woman? ---A gay joke

A guy came into a bar one day and said to the barman “Give me six double vodkas.” The barman says “Wow! you must have had one hell of a day.”
“Yes, I’ve just found out my older brother is gay.”Queer As Folk DVD
The next day the same guy came into the bar and asked for the same drinks.
When the bartender asked what the problem was today the answer came back, “I’ve just found out that my younger brother is gay too Queer As Folk DVD!”
On the third day the guy came into the bar and ordered another six double vodkas.Queer As Folk DVD boxset
The bartender said “Doesn’t anybody in your family like women?”
“Yeah, my wife…”, said the man.

A mother with Homophobic

This is a gay man's encounter with a homophobic mother:
"What are you gay or something Queer As Folk DVD ?" This phrase resonated through the barber shop and the sound of turning heads created a sharp swoosh in unison. The little boy immediately began to cry, I'm sure wondering what was worse- hitting his brother or being called gay.Queer As Folk DVD
Of course, I could not state for certain that the little boy was indeed gay Queer As Folk DVD boxset, but if he were, the public ridicule and tone of his mother's disappointed voice was enough to bruise his self-esteem and make him question whether his feelings were normal. We all seek some level of approval, especially from those closest to us. However, when that validation is missing, it can prompt feelings of loneliness, fear, confusion, grief and disappointment.Queer As Folk DVD set
It is difficult for men of all ages to identify and accept their attraction to a member of the same sex Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset. And during this time societal pressures can not only create a low self-esteem but delay the coming out process. How can a gay or bisexual man grow to accept themselves when they are seen as "freaks", "sinful" or "sick" by their surrounding environment? The after effects are different levels of openness within the gay community Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset, where many men are afraid to disclose their sexuality to themselves, family, friends and co-workers for fear or rejection or even violence.
If you find yourself in this situation or in need of support, always remember that there is help. Being gay is a normal part of life and is not a deficiency in who you are. Seek others coming out or visit your local gay support groups for help or to interact with other gay people Queer As Folk DVD. You can also visit the Gay Life chat room or discussion forum. Often, an anonymous voice or non-judgmental ear is all you need to keep going!

Are Gay Men Normal?

I thought I was normal until one calm Saturday. Queer As Folk DVD I started the day with normal activities. Nothing out of the ordinary- only activities any other person would do on any given Saturday, regardless of their sexuality. I had brunch with friends then made a trip to the pharmacy and laundromat. The last stop on my normal day of errands was to the barber shop. Little did I realize how that harmless trip would make me question my own self-worth and challenge my own existence.Queer As Folk DVD
I sat in the barber shop waiting amongst the men, women and children. They were all busy with their hurried lives.Queer As Folk DVD boxset The man to the right of me studied a fashion magazine, while the woman to my left attended to her little boy. Suddenly, what I gathered to be the woman's second child entered the shop and sought the attention of the mother by pushing the young boy off of the chair in which he was sitting. "Don't touch me!" the little boy blared. I paid little attention as it seemed like a normal spat between siblings. Queer As Folk DVD boxset However, the mother's response made me wonder if the only person not normal in the barber shop was me and possibly the little boy.

Adoption and Parenting for the Gay

Approximately 125,000 children are waiting to be adopted in the United States. Allowing same-sex couples Queer As Folk DVD or unmarried co-habiting people to adopt children could potentially find homes for a large number of these children. A number of states allow same-sex couples to jointly adopt, while others bar anyone except married couples from adopting, thereby eliminating gays Queer As Folk DVD whether coupled or single.
Other parenting options such as using a surrogacy are available at a considerable cost and with significant legal ramifications. For lesbians, a multitude of fertility treatment options are available such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), though some clinics will refuse to treat same-sex couples. Queer As Folk DVD
Current Status of Adoption Laws and Same-Sex CouplesCurrently, ten states and D.C. allow same-sex couples to jointly adopt children: California, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Vermont and D.C. According to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), adoptions are conducted on a case by case basis, and some states not listed as gay-friendly may still allow adoptions by gay couples Queer As Folk DVD in certain jurisdictions.
Florida, Mississippi and Utah explicitly ban adoptions by gay couples; Florida prohibits all gay people from adopting, whether single or coupled. Confusing the situation still further, certain states allow second-parent adoption where one half of a same-sex couple Queer As Folk DVD boxset adopts the biological child of the other.
It is imperative that a lawyer is involved in any adoption process and that both adoptive parents are named in the petition.
The most vocal opponents of gay parenting are the same voices heard in the fight against same-sex marriage. Ironically, significantly more states allow gay couples to adopt than allow same-sex marriage. Polls however indicate that more people approve of same-sex marriage than gays parenting.Queer As Folk DVD boxset
Arguments Against Same-Sex Parenting
According to the American Psychological Association (APA), the three major concerns about gay parenting are:
1.Lesbians and gay men are mentally ill 2.Lesbians are less maternal than heterosexual women 3.Lesbian and gay men’s relationships with their partners leave little time for relationships with their childrenHomosexuality is not a psychological disorder, and research has failed to prove any of the other concerns. Queer As Folk DVD boxset
The American Psychological Association adopted a resolution in 2004 that said: 'There is no scientific evidence that parenting effectiveness is related to parental sexual orientation: lesbian and gay parents are as likely as heterosexual parents Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset to provide supportive and healthy environments for their children.'
Legal Parenting Obstacles Faced by Same-Sex CouplesOn the 2000 US Census 33% of female same-sex couples Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset and 22% of male same-sex couples indicated they had at least one child under the age of 18 living in the home. Gays and lesbians are parenting in large numbers across the country. The problem is many of the families are not legal under the law and are at risk for being broken up at the whim of others.
The current case involving Sean Hollingsworth and his husband, Donald Robinson Hollingsworth underlines the tenuous legality of gay families in the United States. Robinson's sister was the gestational surrogate for the couple, using Hollingsworth's sperm and a donated egg. Despite the fact the surrogate mother had no genetic connection to the twins she gave birth to, a New Jersey judge declared her the legal mother and she now intends to pursue sole custody.
Lisa Miller became an Evangelical Christian, denounced her sexuality and her wife, and despite a court order refused to allow her ex-wife visitation with their 7 year old daughter. As Miller continued to ignore the court visitation order, a Vermont family court judge awarded full custody to Janet Jenkins, the child's other mother. Miller and her daughter are currently in hiding. The judge's decision in this case shows that the courts are willing to intervene in gay parenting disputes and give equal weight to both parents, whether the biological parent or not
These situations are indicative of the dichotomy that exists about gay parenting in the United States today. Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset
How Gay Parents Can Protect ThemselvesLisa Coons-Andersen, in The Advocate September 3, 2002, "An instant family", advises that same-sex parents Queer As Folk DVD set'not only legally document their life as a family with things such as a will but also create records of parental involvement through photos, school documents, or proof of their participation in their children's extracurricular activities.'Queer As Folk DVD
Coons-Andersen of the advocacy group We 2 Have Parental Rights notes these records may not be legally binding but in the event of a custody battle they at least provide a history of parental involvement.Queer As Folk DVD set
Although the circumstances are unfortunate, the case of Miller and Jenkins supports Coons-Andersen's advice. The courts recognized that genetics and biology are not the important factor; love makes a family~

Top 10 Gay Pleasant Places to Live

The November 4 passage of Proposition 8, which abolished gay marriage Queer As Folk DVD in the state of California, has increased attention to gay and lesbian rights. Currently, US federal policy allows individual states to decide whether to legalize same-sex marriage. But for homosexuals living in states with discriminatory views toward the LGBT community, the urge to move to greener, rainbow-filled pastures may be hard to resist. Queer As Folk DVD

1.Netherlands (Holland): On April 1, 2001, Netherlands was the first country in the world to grant full marriage and registered partnership rights for same-sex couples Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset. Unfortunately, if you and your liefhebben decide to move, your marriage may not be considered legal unless you move to one of the countries listed below. 2.Belgium: In 2003, Belgium became the second country in the world to legalize gay marriage Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset. Queer As Folk DVD boxset4.Canada: In June 2005 the House of Commons extended marriage rights to gays and lesbians throughout the entire country, followed by Senate approval the following month, effectively legalizing gay marriage in all of Canada in July 2005. The states of Maine, Hawaii, the District of Columbia, Oregon and Washington have granted legal unions that offer some of the same rights and responsibilities of marriage under state law. 8.Denmark: permits registered partnerships (synonymous with “civil unions”) for same sex couples Queer As Folk DVD. Gays Queer As Folk DVD and lesbians are granted all the same rights as marriage. 9.Sweden: has granted civil unions and adoption rights since 1995, making it the third country to grant this right. The Church of Sweden was recently allowed to bless the unions of same-sex couples.Queer As Folk DVD 10.Iceland: legalized civil unions in 1996. In 2006, gay couples were given the same adoption and co-parenting rights as heterosexual couples Queer As Folk DVD. The vote was unopposed in Icelandic Parliament. While the urge to move may seem tempting, there’s a growing movement in the US to increase pressure on the federal government to provide equal rights for all Americans. Consider joining the cause and find out what’s happening in your local community by contacting the Human Rights Campaign or the American Civil Liberties Union.

Expressing Gay Relationships with Partnership

The dawning of Civil Partnership for gay people Queer As Folk DVD in the United Kingdom (UK), has afforded those who are homosexual to enjoy a lifestyle that has the hallmarks of marriage, with its legal and common attributes. Queer As Folk DVD However, such marriage is not a new concept according to John Boswell (1996)’Marriage of Likeness’. Europe was accepting of such arrangements in earlier centuries. The law having been turned upon gay men in the UK until 1967, who were until that time subject to legal restraint, incarceration and hard labour. In the main, it has been the men within the gay community that have suffered the full weight of the law. In other countries in the 21st century legal restraint continues. Queer As Folk DVD
Stonewall Generation's LegacyHowever, the older generation of the gay community who can and do remember what can be perceived as the ‘hidden’ years of the Stonewall Rights Era, were many can voice experience of such legal restraint and retribution, clearly expressed in Jeffrey Weeks’ book: ‘Coming Out’ Sadly, many in the current gay community of a younger and much more aggressively ‘out’ community, fail to recognise the legacy that is owed to the older gay person, who through a silent witness of simply ‘being gay’Queer As Folk DVD set, and those brave enough to be ‘out’ gay activists, brought about the necessary changes in legislation in the UK and beyond. A legacy for the many bought by the few. Queer As Folk DVD set
In the ensuing decades, gay rights have evolved into a much more wholesome part of society where legal protection through the equality legislation, and in part other statutes that support the lifestyle of the gay citizen. Again, noted clearly in both the work of Boswell and Weeks.
Christian Fundamentalist HomophobiaCivil Partnerships are in essence to the wider community, especially the fundamental right wing of the Christian Churches, not wholly acceptance of the gay lifestyle, or indeed, a supplementary aspect of marriage that can be welcomed and embraced as part of modern society. Many Christian denominations, still vehemently opposed its formation and its acceptance of what is perceived by many in the Christian Churches as a step too far and the distillation of heterosexual norms.Queer As Folk DVD boxset
Even with this enshrined legal status, in the UK some Christian’s still advocate and support a total bad or indeed continual outrage towards such lifestyles in the UK. In recent months, right wing Christian groups have targeted without success, gay community activities and incentives, without success, and in most cases experiencing the full weight of the law, in favour of the gay community.Queer As Folk DVD set
Freedom to be Gay Queer As Folk DVDWhile in the UK gay citizens enjoy empowerment through the protection of legislation as do many in European Nations and beyond, it is sadly not the case within some developing countries. In Malawi and Nigeria, fundamental Christianity has successfully led the denouncement of homosexuality amongst males in particular; as a consequence, gay persons are imprisoned, subjected to extreme abuse and if legislation is passed, even the imposition of the death sentence.Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset
What is fundamentally an abuse of human rights by religious communities is not being overlooked by those who in the UK have the freedom to be gay. The process of decades of gay activism has not as some have noted, been taken for granted by the current generation, but on the contrary, many of the current gay generation are embracing the effort of the past to support the persecuted of our own and other countries into the future.
Lessons that have been learnt by the older generation are providing reasons to be proud of where the gay community Queer As Folk DVD is now, and where it has come from. Therefore, activism ideals from the past are now clearly supporting those being persecuted in the UK and beyond, who are enduring the full weight of the legal process, which was once the fear of the current older generation in their ‘coming out’ formative years.

Homosexuality---A Lifestyle Repressed by Religion

Homosexuality is a concept that has been around for centuries and yet, Queer As Folk DVD it is still looked down upon by some as immoral, inhumane and sinful. The ancient Greeks explored same-sex love as a sign of guidance, education and bonding and it usually involved a man and an adolescent boy. Although homosexuality is a concept well known to most individuals, it still spreads hatred, fear and pain. This is because belief systems are used to repress homosexuality. Queer As Folk DVD
The Traditional Conservative PerspectiveThe conservative view on homosexuality is mostly driven by religion, using several religious references to support main arguments. First and foremost, the conservative stance claims that homosexuality is a chosen lifestyle and that it is something one does. Queer As Folk DVD The cause of this behaviour lies mainly in poor parenting, previous sexual molestation that usually occurs during the childhood years, and even demon possession. It is believed that the addiction of homosexuality entraps individuals in the behaviour, making it difficult to escape.
Homosexuality is sinful, according to the conservative view, as it is unnatural, abnormal, and deviant and mirrors that of disordered behaviour. Queer As Folk DVD boxset This condition threatens the family unit and thus, the social stability both in and around the family.
The conservatives tend to rely on religion to gain credibility in their arguments against homosexuality. However, it appears that religion – claiming to accept all individuals and loving relationships – is used to repress homosexuality. God’s view, conservatively speaking, despises homosexuality Queer As Folk DVD boxset because it is seen as always being sinful despite the act and irrespective of the nature of loving relationships between a man and a woman.
Homosexuality can be cured through counselling and prayer – and much of it is needed to do so, as the homosexual behaviour is powerful and strongly addictive. And it must be cured, as children of homosexuals will be strongly affected by this behaviour – even mentally disturbed.
The Liberal StanceThe liberal stance on homosexuality is a much more welcoming and accepting one as it focuses its arguments on a basic human need – love. From this perspective, homosexuality is something one is – an orientation that is not chosen. The argument for this lies in the explanation that homosexuality is genetically predetermined and that unknown environmental factors in early childhood affects certain genes, causing one to be homosexual. Queer As Folk DVD boxset
It is not sinful to be a homosexual according to the liberals, if it is safe, consensual and committed in terms of a relationship. Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset It is normal and natural to have these feelings and live this lifestyle, since sexual orientation is fixed and cannot be changed – thus, not curable, as the conservatives claim it is. Therefore, the children of homosexual parents will not be subject to homosexual traits as homosexuality is indeed individual The children of homosexuals will most likely be heterosexual themselves and be less judgmental and more accepting of other lifestyles and ways of living.Queer As Folk DVD
The Role – or Failure - of ReligionReligion, as used by the conservative view, is a tool of repression – repressing a lifestyle that is not chosen, but predetermined genetically. Most of the conservative arguments are either supported by religion or consists of nothing but religious opinions and viewpoints. It becomes weaker in a society that consists of many different religions, beliefs and lifestyles.Queer As Folk seasons 1-5 DVD boxset
Homosexuality is being widely recognized as a lifestyle rather than a behavioural phase and is supported by many local communities and provinces in Canada. According to Nicole Baute, a staff reporter at the Toronto Star, Toronto is the proud host of Pride Week – a week-long festival celebrating the people and lives of homosexuality (09/09/09). Canada is not the only city that proudly hosts pride parades – cities like London and Stockholm are also contributors to the homosexual parades and are part of the international pride commission that brings homosexual communities together on an international level.Queer As Folk DVD It is these initiatives that spread awareness – not only about homosexuality, but also about the struggles that homosexuals face in a fierce battle with religion.
